William "Billy" Shea Scholarship
About the Scholarship:
The William "Billy" Shea Scholarship is awarded to a student who has developed confidence and self-esteem through participating in athletics and plans to major in a sports related field in college. Participating in sports builds a confidence that enables individuals to bounce back from challenges and maintain composure in high-pressure situations. This allows the student to handle life’s challenges with more confidence and the ability to handle difficult situations with more conviction.

More About Billy:
Billy Shea lived in Croton-on-Hudson for over 60 years and attended Croton Elementary, Junior High and High Schools. He later went on and had a successful career in Croton working for the Metro North Commuter Railroad Company before retiring and going on to work for the local school district.
He continued to live in Croton and the surrounding area all of his adult life. Billy was widely known throughout the Croton community up until his sudden passing in 2024.
Billy was known as a kind and compassionate person who spent much time mentoring and encouraging the youth of Croton and surrounding communities.
Growing up Billy had to overcome much of societies-imposed limitations based on assumptions and personal appearance. He was never the tallest or the strongest kid or young adult growing up and often was overlooked initially when attempting to participate and compete in sports.
Many people would have accepted the worlds initial interpretation of who he was, but Billy had an inner drive and belief in himself that he was different than the label put on him. It was easy to see Billy from a physical standpoint but no one was able to see the size of his heart and drive.
Billy went on to become a star athlete at all levels of competition and across multiple sports from youth leagues through Croton Harmon High School. He was the star Quarterback on the Terry Smith coached football team at Croton, was the leading scorer for the HS Basketball Team and was captain and star of the Baseball Team. Billy went on to garner the highest award of “Best Athlete” in his Senior Year at CHHS.
The reason we want to honor Billy's legacy in the way of a Scholarship in his name is to continue his legacy of mentoring and encouraging our youth to develop self-confidence and a belief in oneself.
Billy would agree with the statement that “How you present yourself to the world, is how the world will treat you”. This scholarship is intended to help our youth present themselves properly.
